Children's health at WeCare Medical

WeCare’s GPs have over 20 years’ experience in managing children’s health by preventing or treating a range of common illnesses and referring your child to specialists when needed.

Children are constantly growing and changing. Your sweet little baby turns into a curious toddler, then they start school and, before you know it, they’re learning how to drive!

Their wellbeing is your top priority. You’re closely attuned to your kids and know when they’re not quite themselves. That’s why we listen to your concerns and give you the best advice we can about your child’s health.

Growth and developmental checks

We like to check your child’s health and development at regular intervals, usually at:

At these appointments, we will check your child’s weight, growth and ask if they’re meeting developmental milestones like sitting, standing, walking or talking.

These check-ups are a good opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have about your child or to ask for advice about sleeping, feeding or other common parenting issues.

In most cases, we’re able to reassure you that your child is happy and healthy. If your child is not gaining weight or is developing more slowly than expected, we can refer you to a paediatrician or to early childhood intervention services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy or dietetics. Evidence shows that early intervention can greatly assist children in their development.

Injuries

Children easily injure themselves when playing on the monkeybars, riding their bikes or just having fun with their friends. Our GPs can assess your child’s injury, provide initial support and order any scans or tests that may be needed to determine the right course of treatment.

Illnesses

Your child’s immune system is still developing. In many cases, it successfully fights off an illness without our help.

GPs are skilled in diagnosing and treating a large number of childhood illnesses, including short-term bacterial infections like tonsillitis or ear infections and viral conditions like glandular fever.

If your child experiences frequent, repeated infections, we can also discuss options like removing tonsils or placing grommets.

We can also manage ongoing conditions such as asthma or allergies.

Childhood and seasonal immunisations

Australia’s National Immunisation Program gives your child timely protection against serious diseases that used to mar childhood.
